Habibur Rahman, senior reporter of Channel One, and Mahmud Rakib of Ekattor TV (Ekattor/Ekhon TV) have been elected President and General Secretary, respectively, of the Shipping Reporters Forum Bangladesh (SRFB) for the 2026–2027 executive term. The election results were formally announced on Friday (July 24, 2026) following the organization’s Biennial General Meeting held at the Sanskriti Bikash Kendra in Paribagh, Dhaka.
Out of the 13 executive committee positions, 11 office-bearers were elected uncontested. Direct voting took place solely for the posts of President and Organizational Secretary. In the presidential race, Habibur Rahman defeated his contestant Kazi Jebel of Daily Jugantor. Meanwhile, in a rare electoral outcome, candidates Fahim Monayem (Boishakhi TV) and Mesbah Ullah Shimul (BTV) tied for the Organizational Secretary position, prompting the election commission to jointly declare both candidates victorious.
The newly constituted committee includes Vice President Mahbub Saikat (My TV), Joint General Secretary Tarikul Islam Suman (Vorer Dak), Treasurer Borhan Uddin (Dhaka Mail), Office Secretary Rashim Molla (Daily Manabzamin), and Publication Secretary Faruk Alam (Kalbela). The executive members elected are Shamsul Islam (Daily Naya Diganta), Faisall Ahmed (The Bangladesh Mail), Harlal Roy Sagar (Vorer Kagoj), and Asish Kumar Sen (Daily Janata).
The election was conducted by a three-member election commission headed by Abu Saleh Akon, President of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), alongside election commissioners Mainul Hasan Sohel and Mohi Uddin. Prior to the voting, the general meeting approved the financial and organizational reports presented by outgoing leaders, reaffirming the forum’s commitment to professional journalism within the maritime and shipping sectors
