Date:

TBM Report

A 25-year-old Rohingya woman was brutally hacked to death with a spade following a domestic dispute in Chandanaish, Chittagong, on Wednesday (August 19, 2026).

Police arrested her husband, Md. Selim (24), shortly after the murder took place in the Ullahpara area of Chandanaish Municipality.

The deceased was identified as Nur Haba. According to local law enforcement, both the victim and the accused are Rohingya nationals who resided as tenants in the house of Ayyub Ali Sawdagor in Ullahpara.

Police reported that Selim left his house on Wednesday morning carrying a spade, ostensibly heading to work. However, he returned shortly after and found his wife locking the door from the outside to leave the premises. An argument escalated quickly between the couple, culminating in Selim attacking his wife with the spade and inflicting severe injuries.

Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing her screams and transported the heavily bleeding woman to the Dohazari Health Complex. Attending doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Anwara Circle) Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the incident, stating that police apprehended Selim from the hospital premises soon after the attack. The body has been sent for an autopsy, and legal proceedings, including filing a homicide case, are currently underway.
