The bodies of six Bangladeshi nationals who lost their lives in a tragic hotel fire in Kolkata on August 19, 2026, have been officially repatriated to Bangladesh following completion of administrative procedures.

The fatal blaze broke out at a residential hotel in Kolkata, claiming the lives of seven Bangladeshi citizens. Immediately following the incident, the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata worked closely with local West Bengal authorities and the victims’ families to expedite all legal and border formalities.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, the mortal remains of S. M. Alimuzzaman, hailing from Satkhira, were handed over to his family members through the Ghojadanga-Bhomra land port border post.

Meanwhile, the bodies of four members of a single family from Kushtia—Debashish Dutta, Afsana Sharmin, Swarnashish Dutta, and Md. Akram Ali—along with Babu Ahmed from Aminbazar, Dhaka, were repatriated through the Petrapole-Benapole border line.

The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission arranged preservation, transportation, and border coordination for all six bodies. The Seventh victim, Repati Sarkar from Satkhira, was cremated in Kolkata last night in accordance with his family’s wishes. The diplomatic mission provided necessary financial and logistical support for the final rites.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep grief and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members.
