TBM Report
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the second key suspect involved in the suffocative murder of housewife Molina Rani Roy at the TNT Road area in Jhalkathi town. The suspect, identified as Jewel alias Nayan Dakuwa, was apprehended during a raid in Dhaka before being brought back to Jhalkathi and subsequently remanded to judicial custody via court order.
According to Jhalkathi police sources, the primary suspect, Ritosh, had been arrested earlier. Ritosh resided as a tenant on the third floor of the very same building as the victim. Taking advantage of the building being largely vacant during the traditional Rath Yatra festival, Ritosh, accompanied by his accomplice Jewel, unlawfully broke into Tapan Roy’s second-floor residence on the pretext of committing theft.
Investigating officers revealed that upon hearing the noise of the breaking door, Molina Roy woke up and instantly identified her neighbor Ritosh. Fearing exposure, the two perpetrators forcibly gagged her, tied her limbs, and choked her to death. To mislead law enforcement and disguise the homicide as a routine burglary, the prime suspect ransacked his own rented residence on the third floor before absconding from the city.
Jhalkathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Mehdi Hasan affirmed that forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and digital tracking played a pivotal role in tracing the perpetrators. Police confirmed that all remaining legal procedures and investigations are being conducted swiftly to ensure maximum prosecution against the culprits.
