TBM Report

In a devastating road accident, two expatriate youths were killed when a freight truck crushed their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria. The accident occurred at approximately 4:00 PM on Friday (May 15, 2026) in the Sonarampur area. The victims, identified as Ziaul Amin (25) and Shah Alam (30), were both residents of the Panishwar Union under Sarail Upazila.

According to family and police sources, Ziaul Amin was a migrant worker in Saudi Arabia, while Shah Alam worked in the United Arab Emirates. Both were currently in Bangladesh on leave. The duo was heading towards Ashuganj on a motorcycle when a Sylhet-bound freight truck struck them from behind in the Sonarampur area. The impact was so severe that both died on the spot, and their motorcycle was completely mangled.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarail Khatihata Highway Police Station, Md. Abu Taher, confirmed the incident, stating that police reached the scene promptly to recover the bodies. “The truck involved in the accident has been seized, although the driver managed to flee. The bodies have been sent to the Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy,” the OC added.

The tragic death of the two young men has cast a somber mood over their village. Legal proceedings are currently underway, and highway police have intensified efforts to apprehend the absconding driver. Authorities have once again emphasized the need for stricter speed control and vigilance on the major national highways to prevent such recurring loss of life.
