In a tragic escalation of a domestic dispute, an elder brother allegedly hacked his younger sibling to death in Cumilla’s Sadar South Upazila. The victim, identified as Faisal, was reportedly attacked by his elder brother, Morshed (40), following a heated argument regarding the disruption of Morshed’s wife’s sleep. Local police apprehended the suspect from the Suagazi Bazar area on Thursday afternoon (May 14, 2026), shortly after the fatal incident.
The confrontation began Thursday morning at Goalgaon village when Morshed scolded neighborhood children for making noise, claiming their shouting disturbed his wife, who had returned home from a night shift at a factory. Faisal intervened, defending the children and urging his brother to stop scolding them. This led to a verbal altercation between the two brothers, which briefly subsided before re-igniting with deadly consequences later in the day.
Around 1:30 PM, the dispute turned violent. Morshed allegedly retrieved a sharp weapon (cleaver) from his home and struck Faisal repeatedly. Critically injured and bleeding profusely, Faisal was rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital by neighbors, where the attending physician pronounced him dead. The news of the fratricide has left the local community in a state of shock and mourning.
Cumilla Sadar South Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Rokibul Islam confirmed that the body has been sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. “We launched a prompt operation following the report and successfully detained Morshed at approximately 3:30 PM,” the OC stated. Legal proceedings are currently underway as the police gather further evidence and statements from family members and eyewitnesses.
