Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea signed a landmark USD 13 million grant agreement today to build an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub Center at Software Technology Park-2 in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka. The initiative aims to develop local AI expertise while expanding tech-driven cooperation between the two nations.
The Economic Relations Division (ERD) under the Ministry of Finance and the ICT Division under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology (MOPTIT) signed the Record of Discussion (RD) alongside the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Officially titled “Fostering Innovative Technology Experts with a Focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bangladesh,” the venture is widely recognized as the AI-Hub Project.
The Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) will execute the initiative between 2026 and 2029 in partnership with KOICA and ERD. Senior officials from the ICT Division, ERD, BHTPA, and KOICA attended the signing ceremony in Dhaka, which follows extensive bilateral deliberations to advance digital growth.
Under the agreement, existing facilities inside Software Technology Park-2 will undergo extensive renovation to accommodate dedicated units for AI education, applied research, and cross-industry collaboration. Once fully operational, the center will function as a central node for digital talent building across the country.
The AI-Hub Center will deliver high-level digital skills training, faculty development programs, and stronger connections between universities, enterprise leaders, and government entities. These measures intend to prepare Bangladeshi talent for shifting demands within global software markets.
Established in 1991, KOICA serves as South Korea’s primary development agency, offering bilateral technical assistance, fellowship programs, and innovation partnerships worldwide. This initiative reinforces South Korea’s long-term commitment to advancing Bangladesh’s technology landscape.
