Bangladesh ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, emphasizing that the legend’s return would significantly ease his leadership burden. Speaking on Sunday (March 1, 2026), during the onset of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), Miraz noted that having a player of Shakib’s caliber in the squad simplifies team combinations and on-field strategic decisions.
Regarding the administrative and personal hurdles Shakib is currently facing, Miraz remained optimistic about a positive resolution. “The final decision lies with the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board). However, I believe if his issues are resolved, it will clear the path for him to play freely. As a captain, having him back would make my job much easier,” Miraz stated. He highlighted that the team management and the board are generally positive about integrating the star all-rounder back into the national side.
Miraz also reflected on the team’s recent inconsistencies in the ODI format, attributing the dip in performance to the long gaps between 50-over matches and a heavy focus on T20Is. He acknowledged that the irregular schedule hindered cohesive planning but stressed that the upcoming cricket calendar offers a chance to reset. With the BCL marking the start of a fresh domestic season, Miraz plans to collaborate with the board to finalize a winning blueprint for the future.
