French football has officially ushered in a new era as the French Football Federation (FFF) announced the appointment of legendary footballer and manager Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach of the national team. Zidane replaces Didier Deschamps—who stepped down after a monumental 14-year tenure—and has signed a long-term contract running through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The former Real Madrid manager, who achieved an unprecedented three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles during his stint in Spain, had been out of management while waiting for the national team job. Despite receiving lucrative offers from top European clubs over the years, Zidane prioritized managing ‘Les Bleus,’ fulfilling what he described as a lifelong dream and the highest honor of his managerial career.
Addressing his new role, Zidane promised an attractive, attack-minded style of play while building a balanced squad composed of established stars and promising young talents. With high-profile players such as Kylian Mbappé, Michael Olise, and Bradley Barcola at his disposal, the 1998 World Cup winner aims to restore France’s dominance following their disappointing campaign at the 2026 World Cup.
Zidane is scheduled to make his official managerial debut on the touchline in September during the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures. Football analysts and fans across the country widely view his arrival as the catalyst needed to reignite France’s tactical prowess and guide the team back to the pinnacle of international football.
