Police have apprehended two suspects in connection with the abduction, assault, and extortion of Hafiz Maulana Abu Sayeed Akon, the director of a local women’s madrasa in Char Fasson, Bhola. The arrests took place late Monday night in the South Aicha Bazar area, following a swift investigation into a case filed by the victim. The suspects have been identified as Rakib Swonkar (29) and Rajib Gazi (21).
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Tasnimul Ulum Babus Salam Mohila Madrasa. According to the police, a group of individuals forcibly abducted Maulana Abu Sayeed, assaulted him, and snatched cash before demanding a hefty ransom. The victim managed to escape and promptly filed a lawsuit against six individuals on Monday. South Aicha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ahsan Kabir confirmed that the raid was initiated immediately after the case was registered.
The two arrestees were produced before the court on Tuesday morning and subsequently sent to jail. “Our primary focus is to ensure the safety of educational leaders. While two are in custody, we are conducting continuous raids to capture the remaining four suspects involved in this heinous crime,” OC Kabir stated. The local community has expressed grave concern over the safety of religious scholars following this bold daylight abduction attempt.
