A tragic road accident claimed the life of an auto-rickshaw driver named Khalilur Rahman (45) on the Jhalakathi-Pirojpur regional highway this Saturday (February 28, 2026). The fatal collision occurred at noon in the Samabay area involving a passenger auto-rickshaw and a speeding motorcycle, highlighting the ongoing concerns over road safety in the region.
The victim, Khalilur Rahman, son of Iman Ali Khan from Kaibatyakhali village in Rajapur Upazila, was reportedly heading towards Bhandaria when a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction struck his vehicle with immense force. Witnesses stated that the impact was so severe that the auto-rickshaw was completely mangled, and Khalilur died on the spot before any medical assistance could reach him. The motorcyclist also sustained injuries and received first aid at a local hospital.
Upon receiving the report, Rajapur police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and took custody of both vehicles. “Legal proceedings are currently underway to determine the exact cause and accountability of the crash,” a police official confirmed. Local residents have long complained about reckless driving on this highway and are now demanding the immediate installation of speed breakers and increased traffic monitoring at key intersections to prevent further loss of life.
