Member of Parliament for Jhalakathi-1, Md. Rafiqul Islam Jamal, stated that the people of Bangladesh have had to sacrifice their lives on the streets repeatedly to eliminate fascism and autocracy.
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion marking Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day at Kathalia Upazila Auditorium on Sunday, he highlighted the ongoing pain of families whose loved ones remain missing.
“Many mothers are still waiting for their sons; many children are waiting for their fathers. Leaders like BNP’s Elias Ali remain disappeared,” the MP noted. He emphasized that the struggle for rights, which began with the language movement in 1952, continues against oppressive regimes.
The meeting, presided over by UNO Md. Makbul Hossain, was attended by local government officials, freedom fighters, and political leaders.
