An office assistant of Hemayetpur Government Primary School was severely hacked by unidentified miscreants in broad daylight in Damurhuda Upazila on Monday noon. The victim, identified as Harun-ur-Rashid (39), was ambushed just a short distance from the school premises while he was out for breakfast.
According to Harun, two attackers intercepted him on the street and began hacking him indiscriminately with sharp weapons. His desperate screams alerted local residents and school teachers, who rushed to the scene, causing the assailants to flee. Harun was immediately taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital with deep gashes on his stomach and both hands.
Dr. Shapla Khatun of the hospital’s emergency department stated that although the victim sustained significant injuries, he is currently out of danger and is receiving specialized care in the surgery ward. Damurhuda Police Station OC Sheikh Misbah Uddin confirmed the incident, adding that preliminary investigations suggest a family dispute might have triggered the attack. Two police teams are actively working to apprehend the suspects.
