A 30-year-old youth, Selim Paik, sustained a fractured leg after being brutally beaten by a fish farm owner and his associates in Damudya, Shariatpur. The incident, triggered by allegations of fish theft, gained widespread attention after two graphic videos of the torture went viral on social media.
The videos show Selim being dragged out of a pond and tied up before Shahin Madbor, an influential local transport leader and farm owner, repeatedly struck his legs with a heavy wooden branch.
Dr. Mofizur Rahman, an orthopedic surgeon at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, confirmed that Selim’s right femur is broken into two pieces and requires urgent surgery.
While the farm owner claimed Selim was caught red-handed while attempting to steal fish and had previously attacked his guards, the victim denied all allegations, crying out for justice from his hospital bed.
Damudya Police Station OC Robiul Haque stated that police have visited the spot and will take stern legal action as soon as a formal complaint is lodged.
