Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari met with Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo on Sunday at the Bangladesh Secretariat, aiming to step up bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation and joint climate initiatives.
During their formal discussion, both dignitaries reflected on the enduring diplomatic partnership between the two South Asian nations while identifying new avenues for mutual collaboration.
Talks centered on pressing environmental priorities, including ecosystem protection, biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management, and coordinated climate responses. Minister Mintoo opened the session by offering deep condolences over the recent fatal natural disaster in Nepal, assuring Kathmandu of Dhaka’s readiness to extend humanitarian support.
Highlighting the shared ecological destiny of both nations, Mintoo noted that changes in Himalayan snowlines directly impact the downstream river basins of South Asia. He called for unified regional action, knowledge sharing, and joint strategies ahead of the upcoming COP31 climate conference.
Ambassador Bhandari expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and people of Bangladesh for standing in solidarity with Nepal during crisis situations. He emphasized building technical capacity and fostering institutional partnerships between relevant government bodies from both sides.
Beyond climate issues, the discussion touched upon expanding bilateral trade, cross-border connectivity, tourism, and renewable energy. Both sides concurred that expanding clean energy partnerships would be pivotal to driving green growth across the region. Acting Secretary of the Environment Ministry, Dr. Fahmida Khanam, was also in attendance.
