The Bangladesh National Parliament has taken steps to implement an ‘E-Parliament’ system aimed at creating a paperless, technology-driven, and highly efficient legislative body.
A high-level delegation comprising Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal MP, alongside Library Committee members Nayab Yusuf Ahmed and A B M Mosharraf Hossain, met with the Speaker at the Parliament Secretariat on Sunday (September 6, 2026).
During the meeting, the Speaker directed the formation of a specialized technical committee chaired by the Deputy Speaker. This committee will evaluate the system architecture, technological requirements, and implementation strategies for transitioning parliamentary operations online.
The proposed E-Parliament system will operate in both Bangla and English. It will digitize document management, archiving, and internal communications, significantly reducing paper reliance while cutting administrative costs and delays.
To ensure robust implementation, the Parliament Secretariat plans to collaborate with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and international donor agencies for technical assistance and capacity building.
The Speaker also instructed officials to present a detailed technical demonstration of the proposed system by the end of September 2026. Senior officials from the Parliament Secretariat were present during the briefing, which was later confirmed by Assistant Director Md. Zainal Abedin.
