A five-member student team will represent Bangladesh at the International Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues (IOCE) 2026 in Sirius, Russia, following a competitive nationwide talent hunt.
The national squad was finalized through the Bangladesh Olympiad on Climate Change & Environmental Issues (BOCE) 2026, co-organized by the Sustainability and Life Sciences Network (SLSN) and Zero Competitions. More than 4,000 students across the country participated in the preliminary selection stages.
The competition launched with a countrywide preliminary round on July 17, 2026, followed by regional qualifiers in Dhaka, Rajshahi, and Sylhet, along with an online regional track. Nearly 1,000 candidates competed in the regionals, with the top 300 advancing to the National Round held at Curzon Hall, University of Dhaka, on August 21.
Distinguished academics and diplomats attended the national event, including University of Dhaka Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Abdus Salam, and Alexandra Khlevnoy, Director of the Russian House in Dhaka. Prof. Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed from the Department of Geology served as the academic advisor.
Following the national round, 40 top performers attended a specialized boot camp covering biodiversity, climate science, environmental chemistry, and disaster management. A rigorous selection test held at the Russian House on August 27 finalized the top five contenders.
The selected team members are Abu Mahzoorah Aymaan, Fabiha Nurjina, Ismah Aroush, S M Anfal Habib, and Kamrun Nahar Megha. Taseen Mohammad and Ahnaf Tahmid Uddin will lead the delegation as team leaders, with Ferdous Ahmed joining as an observer for the theoretical and practical events in Sirius.
