UK Export Finance (UKEF), the UK government’s export credit agency, has highlighted available country capacity of £1 billion to £2 billion to back projects in Bangladesh incorporating British goods and services.

During a high-level official visit to Dhaka from September 2 to 4, 2026, a delegation of senior UK trade officials engaged with government ministers, financial institutions, and private sector leaders to introduce these competitive credit structures.

The financing coverage spans critical development sectors across Bangladesh, including transportation, agriculture, healthcare, airport modernization, heavy manufacturing, renewable energy, and core infrastructure.

The visiting UK delegation features Mark Birrell, Trade Counsellor for South Asia; Sandeep Kudtarkar, UKEF Country Head for India, Bangladesh, and Nepal; and Rohini Aggarwal, Head of Trade Policy for South Asia.

Delegates met key financial partners, including Standard Chartered Bangladesh, HSBC, and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Bangladesh, to outline mechanisms that facilitate trade flow and long-term project investments.

UKEF offers specialized credit instruments—such as Buyer Credit Facilities, Direct Lending, Standard Buyer Loan Guarantees, and Early Project Services Guarantees—capable of extending support in over 60 local currencies worldwide.

Mark Birrell, UK Trade Counsellor for South Asia, emphasized that the engagement aims to deepen long-standing economic ties and align British technical expertise directly with Bangladesh’s growth roadmap.
