Newly sworn-in President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir paid rich tributes to the heroic martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. The visit took place a day after he assumed office as the 23rd President of Bangladesh.
Upon his arrival at the memorial, a smartly turned-out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force presented a state salute. A solemn tune was played on the bugle during the ceremony.
The President placed a floral wreath at the altar and stood in solemn silence to honor the memories of the fallen heroes. He subsequently signed the official visitors’ book kept on the memorial premises before departing the area.
Security measures around the National Martyrs’ Memorial were significantly tightened to facilitate the state visit. Law enforcement agencies maintained smooth traffic flow along the adjacent Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
The ceremony followed the formal oath-taking at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban, where Acting Speaker of Parliament Kaiser Kamal administered the oath of office.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, former Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, opposition leaders, foreign diplomats, and senior civil and military officials.
