High commissioner of Canada calls on defense adviser to the prime minister in Dhaka

High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh, Ajit Singh, paid a courtesy call on Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. A.K.M. Shamsul Islam, Defense Adviser to the Prime Minister, at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Monday.

The bilateral meeting, held on August 17, 2026, focused on modernizing the Bangladesh Armed Forces and expanding defense cooperation between the two nations.

During the session, the Defense Adviser and the Canadian High Commissioner exchanged greetings and recalled the long-standing friendly diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Canada.

The discussion centered on potential avenues for enhancing military technological exchanges, strategic defense cooperation, joint training programs, disaster management, and peacekeeping operations.

Both parties expressed optimism that continued bilateral engagement will elevate the defense and diplomatic partnership between Bangladesh and Canada to new heights in the coming years.
