AmCham calls for swift implementation of policy reforms to boost investor confidence

The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) has urged the Bangladesh government to move beyond policy announcements and focus on the effective implementation of reforms to strengthen foreign and domestic investor confidence.

The call came during a high-profile luncheon meeting titled “Building Investors’ Confidence: From Policy Reform to Effective Implementation,” held at the InterContinental Dhaka on Sunday (August 16, 2026). The dialogue brought together senior policymakers, trade leaders, and international investors to hash out actionable strategies for improving Bangladesh’s investment ecosystem.

Opening the session, AmCham President Syed Mohammad Kamal highlighted the untapped potential for U.S. investments in technology-driven and emerging sectors. While acknowledging that Bangladesh possesses the core fundamentals investors look for, he stressed that consistent execution of policies remains the missing link to turning interest into long-term capital inflow.

Echoing these views, HSBC Bangladesh CEO Md. Mahbub ur Rahman pointed out that capital security and regulatory predictability form the bedrock of business confidence. He noted that streamlining trade processes would enable the country to leverage its competitive advantages and attract robust foreign direct investment (FDI).

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, MP outlined the administration’s drive to cut red tape and ease market entry constraints. He disclosed that the government has set up direct feedback channels for entrepreneurs to report regulatory bottlenecks and operational hurdles.

On tax administration, the Finance Minister affirmed that comprehensive automation of the revenue system is underway to boost transparency and curtail corruption. He added that the government is modernizing customs handling at ports while setting clear benchmarks for compliant businesses to ensure a fair and predictable tax environment.

The event concluded with an interactive session moderated by AmCham President Syed Mohammad Kamal, where business leaders discussed startup financing, tax compliance, and revenue policy priorities with the Finance Minister. The event was held with support from Chevron Bangladesh, HSBC, Transcom Group, and VISA.
