Bangladesh has requested Lithuania to establish a dedicated visa center in Dhaka to streamline application processing for its citizens, while also calling for increased recruitment of skilled Bangladeshi professionals.

The proposal came during a courtesy meeting between Diana Mickevičienė, the non-resident Ambassador of Lithuania to Bangladesh, and Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister, held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Monday morning (August 17, 2026).

During the bilateral talks, both sides engaged in discussions spanning key areas of mutual interest. The agenda centered on expanding bilateral trade and investment, fostering collaboration in higher education and information technology, and promoting professional workforce exchanges.

Adviser Humayun Kabir commended the ongoing diplomatic engagement and constructive cooperation between Dhaka and Vilnius. Highlighting the country’s growing pool of trained technical talent, he urged the Baltic nation to recruit more skilled manpower directly from Bangladesh.

To ease the travel logistics for Bangladeshi students, researchers, and entrepreneurs, the Foreign Affairs Adviser stressed the necessity of a local diplomatic presence. He explicitly requested Ambassador Mickevičienė to facilitate setting up an official Lithuanian visa application center in Dhaka.

Ambassador Mickevičienė expressed strong interest in expanding educational ties and academic partnerships with Bangladeshi institutions. Both officials concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral relations across emerging economic sectors.
