Police in Monpura have adopted a dual-track strategy to eradicate illicit drug trade and raise community awareness across the island. In a midnight operation, law enforcement officers arrested two suspected drug dealers with 20 pieces of Yaba tablets. Following formal charges under the Narcotics Control Act, a local court ordered both suspects remanded to Bhola district jail on Wednesday afternoon.
Police identified the suspects as Md. Rakib and Md. Sohag, both residents of Monpura union. According to police sources, an operational team conducted a targeted raid near the Ramnewaz fish landing center embankment late Tuesday night, apprehending the individuals red-handed with the contraband substances.
In tandem with enforcement actions, Monpura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazaharul Islam has initiated grassroots anti-drug campaigns across major local markets. Over Tuesday and Wednesday, community meetings were convened at Chaumuhani and Fakirhat markets in Hazirhat union, engaging local business leaders, civil society representatives, journalists, and youth organizers to combat substance abuse.
Addressing the gatherings, the police chief reaffirmed an absolute zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, consumption, and financial facilitation within the jurisdiction. Emphasizing that drug addiction destroys families and social harmony, law enforcement officials urged citizens to provide actionable intelligence to help keep the coastal region safe and crime-free.
