The strategic shift follows consecutive nights of intense retaliatory airstrikes between US forces and pro-Iranian militias in the Persian Gulf region. According to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), a recent drone strike in Jordan resulted in the deaths of two US service members and left one soldier missing. This marks the first official American military fatalities since the conflict resumed.
Reports published by The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal confirmed that the casualties occurred at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. US intelligence officials suspect that Iran is utilizing high-end targeting acquisition assistance from China or Russia. The sophisticated Iranian missiles are reportedly capable of bypassing advanced US air defense systems like THAAD by maneuvering close to the ground.
In response to the growing threat to sensitive targets, the Pentagon is extensively incorporating unmanned aerial systems and advanced drones into its operational blueprints to neutralize Iranian air defense radars. As part of this large-scale deployment, squadrons of F-16 fighter jets from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany and F-35 stealth fighters from the UK are arriving at Israeli military installations.
