Iran has launched a large-scale drone attack targeting two vital United States military bases located in Kuwait. According to the Iranian state television network IRIB, citing military officials on Sunday, the retaliatory strikes successfully targeted an ammunition depot at Camp Al-Adair and the Patriot missile defense systems along with air defense radars at the Ali Al-Salem Air Base.
The high-stakes military operation follows a week of continuous US airstrikes on various Iranian installations across the region. In response, Tehran claimed responsibility for launching counter-attacks on US military assets and installations in several Middle Eastern countries, including Kuwait.
The significant escalation comes despite a recent diplomatic breakthrough in June, where the US and Iran signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) mediated by Pakistan to establish a ceasefire and long-term peace framework. However, the agreement has failed to de-escalate military frictions, with bilateral tensions continuing to spike aggressively.
International media outlet Al Jazeera reported that the Pentagon and US Central Command have not yet released an official statement regarding the extent of the damage or casualties. Diplomatic experts fear that this direct strike on sensitive US air defense assets could dismantle the fragile ceasefire and push the region toward a full-scale confrontation.
