A Dhaka court on Thursday (July 2, 2026) sentenced a woman, identified as Fatema Begum alias Shilpi, to death for the gruesome murder and subsequent dismemberment of her husband five years ago in the capital’s Mohakhali area.
oncurrently, the Dhaka 16th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Nazmun Nahar Nipu sentenced the convict to an additional seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of BDT 10,000 for concealing the corpus delicti (body parts).
Additional Public Prosecutor Khondakar Shofi Newaz Nasir confirmed the judicial verdict, stating that the execution warrant was issued immediately following the court session.
The prosecution established that on May 30, 2021, Fatema premeditated the assassination of her husband, Moyna Miah alias Shakil—an autorickshaw driver—over domestic discord and financial disputes regarding his multiple marriages.
The convict incapacitated Miah with sedative narcotics before decapitating him and severing his limbs into six pieces using a saw. She then systematically dispersed the body parts across Mohakhali, Amtoli, and the Gulshan Lake utilizing a rented rickshaw.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police cracked the case within 12 hours of discovering the decapitated torso, leading to a comprehensive confession.
The court finalized the capital punishment after evaluating testimonies from 17 witnesses out of 26 listed by the state.
