Eid morning brutality: Three of a family, including father and two sons, Machete-hacked over land dispute

Date:

TBM Report

Marring the festive sanctity of Holy Eid-ul-Adha with violent agrarian conflict, three members of the same nuclear family—a septuagenarian father and his two adult sons—were brutally hacked with sharp-edged domestic weapons in Binnapara village under Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila. The violent assault transpired at approximately 08:00 AM on Wednesday, triggered by a volatile, long-standing real estate and boundary perimeter dispute. The critically wounded victims have been identified as Helal Khan (75), and his two sons, Sohel Khan (40) and Rana Khan (30), all of whom are currently undergoing emergency stabilization protocols at the Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital.

According to formal statements provided by the wounded individuals from their hospital beds, the kinetic escalation began when they received urgent intelligence that a rival faction was actively dismantling a barbed-wire security fencing and felling banana plantations located on a plot belonging to Helal Khan’s second son, Babu Khan. Upon arriving at the site to register a formal protest against the structural vandalism, the patriarch and his two sons were immediately ambushed. The rival actors—identified as Sohag Mir, his son Tushar Mir, and daughter Tisha Akter—allegedly launched a coordinated, indiscriminate assault utilizing sharp domestic machetes and lethal iron rods.

Local residents, alerted by the victims’ distress calls, rushed to the agrarian perimeter, successfully neutralizing the attackers and extracting the heavily bleeding victims from the crime scene. Dr. Gopal Shool, the attending medical officer at the Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital’s emergency wing, confirmed the severity of the trauma injuries to local reporters. “The three male members of the family were admitted with extensive, deep lacerations across their craniums and upper torsos. Primary clinical diagnostic parameters strongly correlate these trauma wounds with high-force impacts from heavy, razor-sharp weaponry,” Dr. Shool noted, adding that blood-loss mitigation therapy is currently underway.

District law enforcement authorities have reinforced patrols around Binnapara village to suppress any potential retaliatory surges between the Mir and Khan clans. While the perpetrators managed to evade immediate capture following the arrival of village defense teams, the Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station has initiated a preliminary inquiry into the violent breach of peace. Representatives of the victimized family confirmed that a formal penal complaint encompassing statutory charges of grievous hurt and attempted homicide is being filed, as community elders condemn the complete breakdown of social order on a sacred holidays.
