TBM Report
A police team came under a violent attack while attempting to settle a domestic dispute among the relatives of Member of Parliament (MP) Afzal Hossain in Kumarkhali, Kushtia. The attackers, identified as close kins of the lawmaker, pelted stones at the police vehicle, shattering the windshield of the Officer-in-Charge’s (OC) car on Thursday night. The incident occurred around 8:00 PM in the Elangipara area of the upazila.
According to local and police sources, a long-standing feud between the MP’s cousins, Anwar Hossain and Shiplu, escalated into chaos last night. Upon receiving reports of the tension, OC Jamal Uddin reached the spot to de-escalate the situation. However, the relatives—identified as Sadik, Anwar, and Shiplu—allegedly targeted the police car with stones from a nearby railway track. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though the government vehicle sustained significant damage.
OC Jamal Uddin confirmed that an operation is underway to apprehend the suspects, who fled the scene immediately after the assault. “The law is equal for everyone, regardless of their political or familial ties,” the OC stated, adding that legal proceedings are being initiated. Despite claims from the MP’s nephew that “outsiders” might be involved, the police have directly named the MP’s cousins in the preliminary investigation.
