Two dead in devastating fire at Chattogram’s largest apparel hub

Date:

TBM Report

A tragic fire at Terribazar, the largest clothing market in Chattogram, claimed the lives of two individuals on Thursday morning. The blaze erupted at a high-rise commercial building named K.B. Orchid Plaza, leading to the deaths of Mohammad Yunus (52) and Md. Solaiman (28), both residents of Patiya Upazila. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local business community on the eve of Eid holidays.

According to Fire Service sources, the fire broke out around 10:00 AM in a shop located on the fourth floor and rapidly engulfed adjacent areas. Four firefighting units responded to the emergency and managed to bring the flames under control after an hour of intense effort. Three persons were rescued from the debris with severe burns and rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where doctors declared two of them dead. One survivor remains under critical medical observation.

Abdul Mannan, President of the Terribazar Merchant Association, noted that since the Eid holidays had already begun, the market was relatively empty of shoppers, preventing a much larger catastrophe. Nurul Alam Ashiq, In-charge of the CMCH Police Outpost, confirmed that the emergency department received three victims, but two had succumbed to their injuries before arrival. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
