In a devastating road accident, three members of a single family, including a child, lost their lives after being crushed by a truck in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Mirjarkot Model Mosque area while the family was traveling home on a motorcycle to celebrate the upcoming Eid holidays. The deceased were identified as Shariful Islam (35), his wife, and their young son, while their daughter sustained critical injuries and is currently fighting for her life.
Shariful Islam, an employee of a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Patgram, was a native of Mansapur village in Dinajpur’s Hakimpur Upazila. According to police and local sources, the family set off on their journey early Tuesday morning. As they reached the Mirjarkot area, a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with their motorcycle, crushing the victims under its wheels. Shariful, his wife, and their son died on the spot.
Local residents rushed to the scene and managed to rescue the couple’s daughter from the wreckage. She was immediately transported to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station confirmed the casualties, stating that the sheer force of the impact left the community in shock. Authorities are currently working to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
The tragic demise of the family members has cast a somber shadow over the region just days before the festival. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the rising toll of road accidents in Bangladesh, particularly during holiday seasons when traffic increases. Police have initiated a formal investigation, and the bodies will be handed over to their relatives following legal procedures.
