A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against film actress Rubina Akter Nijhum, her husband Mamunur Rashid Rahul, and two of their relatives in a fraud and embezzlement case involving BDT 1.25 million. Metropolitan Magistrate Dilruba Afroz Tithi passed the order on Wednesday after the accused failed to appear before the court despite being summoned.
According to the case files, the complainant, Mosammat Suravi Begum, had a long-standing trust-based relationship with the couple. In October 2020, Nijhum and Rahul borrowed BDT 1.25 million for business purposes, promising to return it within two months. However, as years passed, the couple allegedly ignored repeated requests for repayment. The situation escalated when Suravi, facing a financial crisis due to a serious illness, demanded her money back last year.
The complainant alleged that instead of returning the funds, the accused threatened her with death when she visited their Banasree residence on September 22. “They have blatantly violated the terms of our agreement and abused my trust,” Suravi stated in her petition. Defense counsel Kayesh Ahmed Arnab added that the arrest warrant was necessary as the accused showed no respect for the court’s summon. Police are currently on the lookout for the actress and her husband.
