Islami Andolan lodges complaints with EC over attacks and election fraud

Date:

TBM Report

A five-member delegation from Islami Andolan Bangladesh met with the Election Commission (EC) Secretary on Thursday (12 February) evening to report widespread irregularities in four constituencies.

The party demanded the cancellation of votes in two unions of Patuakhali-1, alleging that their polling agents were forcibly removed from centers under administrative oversight.

According to a press release by Central Publicity Secretary Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf, their candidate for Noakhali-1, Zahirul Islam, was seriously injured in a targeted attack by rivals. The party also alleged that in Bhola-1, supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami coerced female voters to vote for the ‘Scales’ symbol.

Furthermore, in Narsingdi-5, BNP activists reportedly cast proxy votes in front of law enforcement officials.

Professor Mahbubur Rahman, leading the delegation, stated they sought the EC’s urgent intervention to uphold electoral integrity.
