Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has issued a stern directive to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Sahri, Iftar, and Tarabi prayers for the upcoming month of Ramadan. Presiding over the historic first cabinet meeting of the newly formed government at the Secretariat on Wednesday, the Prime Minister emphasized that public service and accountability must be the cornerstone of his administration. State Minister for Labor and Employment, Nurul Haque Nur, briefed the media, stating that the PM cautioned his cabinet against any form of nepotism or corruption.
The Prime Minister urged his colleagues to remain above personal influence and prioritize the immense public mandate received in the recent elections. “The people expect good governance and transparency; we must maintain a firm stance against corruption,” Nur quoted the PM. The cabinet discussed the immediate implementation of “Family Cards,” “Farmer Cards,” and “Health Cards”—promises made during the election campaign—to provide direct benefits to the citizens. Additionally, a specialized initiative for the welfare of Imams and Muezzins was deliberated upon for swift execution.
Focusing on the economic frontier, the meeting addressed the expansion of the labor market. State Minister Nur proposed a high-level visit by the Prime Minister to the Middle East to revitalize labor migration, a sector pioneered by the late President Ziaur Rahman and furthered by former PM Begum Khaleda Zia. The Prime Minister reportedly gave strategic advice on opening closed labor markets and enhancing diplomatic ties with Middle Eastern nations to boost remittance and secure the livelihoods of migrant workers.
To ensure rapid progress, the government has decided to implement a 180-day action plan. This roadmap will focus on stabilizing commodity prices, maintaining law and order, and fulfilling the core aspirations of the July mass uprising. The meeting concluded with a clear message: the government is committed to establishing a state that reflects the sacrifices of the martyrs and the expectations of the general public. This first session of the 13th Parliament’s cabinet signals a proactive and reform-oriented approach to national governance.
