A three-month-long special journalism training workshop has commenced in Barishal aimed at enhancing the professional skills and quality of regional journalists. Senior journalist and former General Secretary of the Dhaka Journalists Union, Sardar Farid Ahmed, officially inaugurated the workshop on Friday at the Bangladesh Bani newspaper office in the city.
The training program is organized and managed by the Barishal Media Corporation, with active collaboration from the daily Bangladesh Bani newspaper. The primary objective of this comprehensive initiative is to increase the professionalism, technical capacity, and practical knowledge of media professionals working in the regional news outlets.
During the inaugural ceremony, senior journalist and organizing committee member Azad Alauddin highlighted the background of this training program. He noted that there are around thirty daily newspapers and twenty-two online news portals operating across the greater Barishal division, alongside numerous digital content creators. However, institutional training facilities remain extremely limited in this region.
To bridge this gap, the organizers have formulated a modern and well-structured curriculum for the participants. The course outline covers essential topics including basic journalism, mobile journalism (MoJo), online journalism, digital media laws, video journalism, and modern fact-checking techniques to combat misinformation.
Upon successful completion of the three-month course, the participants will receive official certificates and get opportunities for practical internships in leading media houses. Furthermore, the management will assist the top-performing students in securing job placements in various national newspapers and electronic media channels.
A panel of highly experienced journalists and media academics from prestigious institutions will conduct the training sessions. The key trainers include Amin Al Rashid, Senior Output Editor of Channel One; Rafiquzzaman Roman, Head of the Journalism Department at Manarat International University; and Masum Mizan, former Vice President of the Crime Reporters Association.
Additionally, Sayeed Ibne Masud, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Television; Kamruzzaman Bablu, Bangladesh Correspondent of Turkey-based TV Today; international news analyst Masum Mahbub; and filmmaker Ahmed Baizid will also share their expertise. Azad Alauddin, the Barishal bureau chief of Daily Naya Diganta, is serving as the course coordinator. The program features twenty-four theoretical and twelve practical classes held every Friday at the sadar Road venue.
