TBM Report

In a seamless transition of leadership, the biennial election (2026-27) of the Jhalakathi Television Journalists’ Association concluded on Tuesday, with all candidates securing their executive positions uncontested. Al-Amin Talukdar, the district correspondent of Ekhon TV, was elected as the President, while Alok Saha, the district reporter for Machranga Television, assumed the office of General Secretary. The official results of the 11-member executive council were formally ratified by the election director on Tuesday afternoon (May 19, 2026) at a local venue in the district town.

The Election Director and District Information Officer, Lenin Bala, proclaimed the final trajectory of the executive committee following the expiration of the withdrawal window. According to the structural election roadmap, the distribution of nomination papers commenced on May 17, followed by comprehensive verification on May 18. Although the general balloting was initially cataloged for May 20, the necessity for active voting was voided as only a single valid nomination was registered for each tier of the executive council.

The corporate hierarchy of the newly minted executive council includes Masudul Alam (Banglavision) as Vice-President, Ratan Acharya (Channel 24) as Joint General Secretary, and Jahurul Islam Jalil (RTV) as Treasurer. Furthermore, Barkat Hossain Mridha (SA TV) was assigned as Office Secretary, Moinul Haque Lipu (ATN News) as Publicity and Publication Secretary, and Saiful Islam (Nagrik TV) secured the portfolio of Sports Secretary.

The institutional framework of the governing body is further fortified by three veteran executive members: Dulal Saha (Jamuna TV), Tarun Sarkar (Ekattor TV), and Shahidul Alam (GTV). Institutional logs verified that the association operates with a consolidated strength of 22 registered eligible voters. Following the formal verification of candidate credentials, the new executive matrix is scheduled to officially assume administrative oversight of the media collective to advance local broadcast journalism standards over the next two fiscal years.
