The United States delivered emergency medical and training equipment to the Bangladesh Coast Guard during separate events in Chattogram and Teknaf on September 7 and 9, 2026. The assistance aims to bolster the maritime force’s first-line emergency medical response and humanitarian assistance capacity.

U.S. Embassy Dhaka Spokesperson Poornima Rai highlighted the handover in an official press release issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The contribution comes as part of ongoing bilateral efforts to enhance disaster relief readiness across coastal regions.

Funded through the Overseas Humanitarian Assistance Shared Information System (OHASIS) project, the supply package contains 120 fully equipped trauma response bags. Coast Guard medical teams can deploy these specialized bags during maritime accidents, search-and-rescue missions, or natural disasters.

To improve operational training, the delivery also features 21 specialized CPR training mannequins. Coast Guard personnel will use these high-fidelity training models to practice lifesaving cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques before handling real-world emergencies.

This initiative reinforces longstanding security and humanitarian cooperation between Washington and Dhaka. By equipping field units in Chattogram and Teknaf, the program directly elevates emergency response times for communities living along vulnerable maritime routes.

The initiative highlights broader efforts to strengthen regional partners across the Indo-Pacific. Enhancing the Bangladesh Coast Guard’s operational readiness improves maritime safety and ensures swift responses during large-scale humanitarian crises.
