Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Susan Ryle met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at his office on Tuesday, September 8. The high-level meeting focused on expanding bilateral ties through targeted workforce training, energy cooperation, trade growth, and joint efforts on the Rohingya refugee crisis.
During the discussion, State Minister Kobir proposed establishing institutional partnerships between Australia’s Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutes and Bangladesh’s Technical Training Centers (TTCs). He urged Canberra to support specialized training programs for Bangladeshi caregivers to meet growing global demand.
The two diplomats reviewed a broad range of bilateral and multilateral interests, including labor mobility, clean energy collaboration, and expanded investment pathways. Both sides emphasized tightening trade relations while unlocking new employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers down under.
Addressing regional stability, State Minister Kobir lauded Australia’s unwavering humanitarian backing for displaced Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. He expressed hope that Canberra would maintain diplomatic pressure on regional actors to achieve a lasting, safe, and dignified solution to the prolonged crisis.
High Commissioner Susan Ryle affirmed Australia’s pledge to support Bangladesh’s vocational education and healthcare capabilities. She noted that technical skills programs remain central to Australia’s development framework in South Asia.
Reiterating Canberra’s commitment on the refugee front, the envoy assured that Australia stands firmly with Dhaka in managing the Rohingya humanitarian situation. She added that both nations maintain robust cooperation across UN agencies and international forums to advance shared global priorities.
