Coordinated action between government agencies and industrial manufacturers remains essential to trace counterfeit goods and cut off their supply lines before they reach consumers, experts emphasized at a workshop in Dhaka on Tuesday.
PRAN-RFL Group organized the event titled “Prevention of Counterfeit and Adulterated Products” in collaboration with the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) at the directorate’s Kawran Bazar headquarters.
Director General of DNCRP Md. Jahirul Islam attended the workshop as the chief guest, while DNCRP Director (Administration and Finance) Sebastian Rema chaired the session. Senior officials from divisional and Dhaka district offices also participated in the proceedings.
“Protecting consumer rights and ensuring access to safe, high-quality products at fair prices forms our primary responsibility,” stated Md. Jahirul Islam. He noted that market inspection officers need dedicated technical training to spot counterfeit versions of established brands during field drives.
Presenting industry data, PRAN-RFL Group Marketing Director Kamruzzaman Kamal called for the creation of a permanent ‘National Anti-Counterfeit Coordination Cell’. He suggested the proposed unit include relevant government authorities and private sector delegates to log complaints, assign tracking codes, and enforce resolution deadlines.
DNCRP Director Sebastian Rema stressed that electronics manufacturers should strictly enforce distribution through authorized dealers to limit fake alternatives. He urged brand owners to proactively safeguard their trademarks while maintaining constant communication with law enforcement agencies.
