Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir today requested India’s assistance to prevent deposed leader Sheikh Hasina and affiliated banned organizations from delivering political speeches or orchestrating destabilizing activities in Bangladesh using Indian territory.
Kabir made the request during a courtesy meeting with newly appointed Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Monday afternoon. While routine bilateral issues dominated the initial discussions, recent social media reports surrounding Sheikh Hasina’s potential public address scheduled for August 5 quickly became the focal point.
Addressing the media following the meeting, Kabir emphasized that allowing individuals linked to banned political entities to issue incendiary statements from abroad harms positive bilateral relations. The adviser stressed that maintaining stability inside Bangladesh requires strict cross-border policy enforcement.
Social media platforms recently circulated reports claiming the exiled leader might deliver a broadcast on August 5. Taking proactive diplomatic action, Dhaka promptly notified New Delhi about the regional security risks associated with such broadcasts.
High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi assured the Bangladeshi adviser that India takes the concern seriously. He noted that New Delhi will look into the matter closely and remain vigilant regarding these developments.
Both diplomats reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties rooted in mutual respect, trust, and shared interests. They highlighted the importance of continuous, constructive dialog to secure long-term, sustainable solutions to regional challenges.
