Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said Bangladesh extols Egypt’s constructive role in promoting regional stability and peace in the Middle East and Africa and also values Egypt’s continued support on issues of mutual concern in international forums.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the National Day reception of Egypt at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel in the city on Sunday.
“As we look ahead, I am confident that our two countries will continue to work closely to unlock new opportunities for economic cooperation, facilitate greater private sector engagement and deepen our people-to-people ties for the benefit both our nations in the coming days,” said Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain

Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said that Egypt is a time-tested friend of Bangladesh and the excellent bilateral relation between the two countries is based on shared values and mutual cooperation. Bangladesh’s relations with Egypt have developed steadily since 1971.
Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said that the excellent brotherly relations between our two countries take root in the commonality of positions on major global issues as well as in the economic fields, mutual respect, and common aspirations for peace and development based on our common tradition and culture. As two important members of the Global South, the OIC and the D-8, our countries have consistently worked together to promote peace, sustainable development and international cooperation.
The minister said that the engagements today span in wide areas, including economy, education, trade, investment, energy security, agriculture, culture etc. The establishment of a direct air connection between Dhaka and Cairo demonstrates the strength and willingness of our two governments to take the bilateral ties to a new height.
Dr AZM Zahid Hossain “Bangladeshi students have a keen interest in studying at Al-Azhar University, which has an authoritative voice of modernization and enlightened Islamic scholarship. Greater opportunities for Bangladeshi students to study at Al-Azhar would help strengthen religious education and contribute to the welfare of the Ummah. We are thankful to the Egyptian government & the Embassy of Egypt in Dhaka for offering scholarships for prospective Bangladeshi students to study at Al-Azhar as well as other public universities in Egypt. We are also thankful for generously hosting a number of Bangladeshi skilled and semi-skilled expatriate workers in the ready-made garments sector in Egypt. They are actively contributing to the socio-economic development of our two countries.”
As you are aware, following a resounding mandate from the people of Bangladesh through a free, fair, and participatory election held on 12 February 2026, the new government has been formed and the government of Bangladesh remains committed to pursuing a foreign policy that promotes friendship, economic prosperity and mutually beneficial partnerships.
The minister said that the government of Bangladesh remains firmly committed to further strengthening and deepening Bangladesh’s relations with Egypt through enhanced trade and investment, greater business-to-business engagements, agricultural cooperation, education, tourism and cultural exchanges. Bangladesh also sees considerable potential for collaboration in pharmaceuticals, ICT, renewable energy and skills development.

I am truly delighted to be present at this august gathering on the occasion of the Egyptian National Day celebration. On behalf of the people and the government of Bangladesh, I take the opportunity to convey our heartfelt congratulations and warmest greetings to the government and the brotherly people of Egypt.

The minister also said “I would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation, through you, to the Egyptian government, business persons, and entrepreneurs to visit Bangladesh and to take advantage of the long-term special facilities offered to foreign investors, particularly in the fields of infrastructure, power & energy, agro-based business, tourism and hospitality.
The minister also said, “I would like to conclude by wishing the Honorable President and the Honorable Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt good health and long life and the people of Egypt continued peace, progress, and prosperity.”
