A devastating career-best bowling performance by young Bangladeshi pacer Nahid Rana dismantled Zimbabwe’s batting lineup, bundling out the hosts for a meager 141 runs in 36.4 overs at the Harare Sports Club. Despite a late tail-end rescue mission that dragged the score past the triple-figure mark, the Zimbabwean top and middle orders collapsed completely under absolute clinical pressure from the visitors’ pace attack.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Bangladesh made immediate inroads by exploiting the early moisture on the Harare track. Senior speedster Taskin Ahmed triggered the initial breakthrough, removing Ben Curran for 18 via a sharp run-out, before inducing an edge from Brian Bennett (17). Taskin then produced a beauty to clean bowl the experienced Craig Ervine for a golden duck, leaving the hosts reeling early in the innings.
Following the initial breakthroughs, Nahid Rana assumed absolute command of the bowling crease, delivering an aggressive spell of high-pace bowling that ripped through the Zimbabwean middle order. Rana systematically scalped Innocent Kaia, who top-scored among the specialists with 26, before removing talismanic skipper Sikandar Raza for 1 and dismissing Wesley Madhevere for a duck in quick succession.
The processing line of wickets continued as Rana outclassed Clive Madande (2) and Brad Evans (3), reducing Zimbabwe to a catastrophic 70 for 8. The hosts were in imminent danger of being bowled out under 100 before the ninth-wicket pairing of Newman Nyamhuri and Richard Ngarava launched a gritty counter-offensive, forging a crucial 63-run partnership.
Rana eventually shattered the defiant stand by cleaning up Zimbabwe’s captain Richard Ngarava for a well-made 27 off 41 balls, securing his milestone sixth wicket of the match. Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz wrapped up the innings by picking up Nyamhuri for 33, courtesy of a sharp catch by Tanzid Hasan Tamim, to hand Bangladesh a highly comfortable chase.
