Severe tension erupted within the premises of the Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital on Thursday morning following the sudden death of a 47-year-old female patient in the surgery ward. The grief-stricken family members launched a formal complaint, alleging that the patient collapsed and expired under agonizing convulsions immediately after a staff nurse administered an intravenous injection. Police units were deployed to the location to secure the clinical ecosystem and prevent potential infrastructure vandalism.
The deceased, identified as Hamida, was a long-term resident of the Muslimpara rental collective in Jhalakathi town, originally hailing from the Narayanganj district. Medical logs indicate that Hamida, the widow of the late Abul Kasem, was admitted to the secondary healthcare facility on May 18 due to deep trauma lacerations sustained during a localized physical altercation. Family members asserted that her parameters were normal until Thursday morning when a routine treatment injection catalyzed her rapid respiratory and neurological collapse.
“She was conversing naturally until the nurse pushed the medication. Within moments, she began thrashing in severe chest pain and asphyxiated before any senior physician could intervene,” a relative claimed during an on-camera interview. The relatives are demanding an independent judicial probe into the active batch of clinical narcotics and the structural competency of the nursing staff on duty.
Conversely, the hospital administration has forcefully rejected any assertions of operational negligence or malpractice. Speaking on behalf of the institution, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Sani clarified that the drug administered was a standard anti-ulcerant/gastrointestinal injection, which possesses no clinical correlation with sudden cardiac arrest or systemic shock. “The patient had a ten-year history of periodic admissions here and was specifically recovering from a violent assault case. We have requested a comprehensive forensic autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death,” the RMO stipulated. Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiqul Islam of the Jhalakathi Sadar Police Precinct stated that legal proceedings are currently underway in close coordination with senior administrative magistrates.
