A massive wave of outrage has gripped Barishal University (BU) after a Chemistry student was accused of secretly capturing and storing compromising photos and videos of hundreds of female students. On Wednesday (March 4, 2026), victims filed formal complaints with the Proctor’s Office, alleging that the student also used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manipulate images, raising grave concerns about a potential cybercrime syndicate.
The incident came to light late Tuesday evening when a female classmate noticed the student taking unauthorized photos of her. Upon checking his phone, classmates discovered folders containing hundreds of private and edited images of female students from across the university. Distressed victims expressed fear that their data might have been leaked to social media or pornography rings. The university’s anti-sexual harassment cell has been ordered to submit a forensic report within three days, while the administration prepares to file a formal police case under the Cyber Security Act.
The Proctor, Rahat Hossain Faisal, confirmed that they are investigating whether the data was transmitted to external channels. Meanwhile, students held a human chain on campus, demanding an exemplary punishment to ensure digital safety for women at the institution. The parents of the accused have been summoned to the university as legal proceedings commence.
