Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally condemned the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, labeling the act a blatant violation of international law. In a heartfelt statement shared on social media on Sunday (March 1, 2026), Sharif conveyed his deepest condolences to the people of Iran, describing the moment as an hour of profound “grief and sorrow” for the entire region.
Sharif emphasized that targeting Heads of State or Government contradicts long-standing international conventions and diplomatic norms. “The government and people of Pakistan stand in solidarity with our Iranian brothers during this irreparable loss,” Sharif wrote, referring to Khamenei’s death as “martyrdom.” He expressed grave concern over the breach of global legal standards, asserting that such military actions jeopardize the foundational principles of international relations.
The Prime Minister concluded his message with a prayer for the departed soul, asking the Almighty to grant the Iranian people the patience and strength to endure this crisis. Pakistan’s stance reflects a significant diplomatic backlash against the escalation in the Middle East, aligning with the widespread public outrage observed across various Pakistani cities following the announcement of the strikes in Tehran.
