Following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a combined US-Israeli strike, Iran has officially pledged a relentless wave of retaliation. On Sunday (March 1, 2026), top officials in Tehran announced plans to target U.S. military bases across the Gulf region. President Masoud Pezeshkian described the assassination as a “declaration of war against the Muslim world,” asserting that Iran holds the legitimate right and duty to avenge this “historic crime.”
The escalation has turned Tehran into a zone of chaos as residents reported fresh explosions during public gatherings. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed they are continuing to hit strategic targets within the city. Simultaneously, reports of blasts emerged from Riyadh, Dubai, Doha, and Jerusalem. Ali Larijani, head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, warned via social media that Iran would now deploy military force “unseen in history,” claiming that previous missile launches against US and Israeli targets were only the beginning.
The humanitarian toll continues to rise, with the Iranian Red Crescent reporting at least 201 fatalities and hundreds of injuries in the latest wave of attacks. Tehran confirmed the deaths of high-ranking figures, including advisor Ali Shamkani and IRGC Chief General Mohammad Pakpur. As grief turns into geopolitical instability, an interim council led by President Pezeshkian has taken control of the state. Meanwhile, from exile, Reza Pahlavi, son of the late Shah, welcomed the news, suggesting the Islamic Republic is nearing its historical end.
