Fresh LPG, a subsidiary of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), has inducted a new specialized carrier into its shipping fleet, significantly expanding its domestic logistics capacity to meet Bangladesh’s rising liquified petroleum gas demand.
Company officials confirmed the operational launch of the vessel on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The strategic expansion aims to ensure uninterrupted distribution across retail markets nationwide.
Named ‘MT Mercantile-65’, the newly acquired LPG carrier holds a carrying capacity of 2,000 metric tons. With two identical vessels already in service, Fresh LPG’s proprietary maritime fleet now commands a cumulative transport capacity of 6,000 metric tons. MGI executives highlighted that this increased tonnage will drastically streamline bulk fuel transit from offshore anchorage points.
Emphasizing the group’s long-term vision, MGI Director Tanveer Mostafa reiterated their dedication to strengthening energy accessibility. He affirmed that MGI will maintain aggressive investments in transport and logistics infrastructure to safeguard national fuel security and support increasing consumer reliance on LPG.
The new vessel will operate primarily along coastal maritime routes, lightering imported LPG from mother tankers anchored at Kutubdia and Chattogram outer anchorages. It will shuttle fuel directly to Fresh LPG’s processing facilities located in Meghnaghat and Mongla.
“Adding this vessel boosts our capacity to ensure year-round distribution, especially when extending our reach into underserved regional pockets,” noted Abu Sayeed Raja, Chief Marketing Officer of Fresh LPG. Founded in 1976, MGI operates over 57 industrial units with a workforce exceeding 65,000 across diverse manufacturing sectors.
