Trump threatens impending strike on Iran’s underground ‘Pickaxe’ nuclear site

US President Donald Trump announced that the United States may soon strike Iran’s highly fortified “Pickaxe” mountain facility, framing the ongoing standoff with Tehran as a “minor military conflict.”

Speaking to reporters at the White House Oval Office on Friday, September 4, 2026, Trump asserted that US targeted military operations have effectively blocked Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons capability.

“We may be hitting Pickaxe very soon,” Trump told reporters, claiming that US intelligence agencies maintain real-time monitoring over personnel movements across sensitive Iranian sites. He argued that preventing Tehran from gaining nuclear weapons has directly safeguarded Israel and the broader Middle East.

Downplaying the scale of the confrontation, Trump described the ongoing campaign as sporadic strikes rather than an all-out war. He highlighted that US naval forces are maintaining control over the Strategic Strait of Hormuz, having dismantled Iranian radar systems and cleared sea mines.

Located near the Natanz nuclear complex, the Pickaxe site features a deep underground tunnel complex shielded under hundreds of meters of granite. While US intelligence suspects hidden uranium enrichment activities, Iranian authorities maintain the facility is strictly used for assembling advanced centrifuges.

Avoid set completion deadlines, Trump stated that Washington has secured its primary strategic objective. He claimed that even if the US withdrew immediately, rebuilding Iran’s destroyed infrastructure and military capabilities would take Tehran at least 25 years.
