The government has re-instituted tactical military deployments across six high-priority metropolitan and regional zones under the “Aid to Civil Power” legal framework to counter potential sabotage vectors linked to the banned political outfit, the Awami League. Confronting national media representatives at the Secretariat on Monday (June 22, 2026), Home Minister Salauddin Ahmed provided the structural and legislative validation for the abrupt deployment, following a bilateral security assembly with the leadership of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad. Minister Ahmed rigorously verified that while the baseline internal law-and-order index remains stable, intelligence telemetry indicating subversive blueprints necessitated a proactive, preemptive defense posture.

An official command dispatch issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division mandated the immediate tactical mobilization of army personnel from June 22 to June 30. The geographic sectors locked under this security envelope include the Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Chittagong Metropolitan Area, Gazipur Metropolitan Area, Narayanganj District, Gopalganj District, and Faridpur District. “Our intelligence commands have intercepted active operational blueprints by the banned mafia-style apparatus of the Awami League targeting June 23—their historical founding anniversary—to orchestrate artificial civil unrest and illicit rallies. Secondary strategic threat profiles exist which cannot be declassified at this juncture,” Minister Ahmed disclosed.

Dismissing journalistic inquiries regarding whether the remobilization implies an institutional lack of executive confidence in the Bangladesh Police, the Home Minister vigorously defended the statutory law enforcement framework. Ahmed validated that the police commands have executed multiple high-merit counter-sabotage operations, with exceptional units receiving state commendations, while internal accountability metrics have penalized isolated infractions. Following the return of military units to barracks on June 15 after an extended post-uprising deployment, Minister Ahmed emphasized that the current dynamic matrix serves as an autonomous routine deployment, maintaining zero operational correlation to the July 2024 emergency kinetic curfews.

The Home Minister also addressed localized judicial actions, specifically the brief detention of Khairul Islam Sajib, son of BNP lawmaker Azharul Islam Mannan (Narayanganj-3), by the Detective Branch (DB). Ahmed signaled an unyielding commitment to the rule of law, stating, “Kinship to a lawmaker guarantees no sovereign immunity; the individual was processed strictly under standard interrogation parameters based on actionable complaints and released upon executing a legal bond.” Prior to the press briefing, the ministerial team hosted an eight-member delegation from the Puja Udjapan Parishad led by Basudeb Dhar and Santosh Sharma.
