The Minister for Road Transport, Bridges, Railways, and Shipping, Sheikh Rabiul Alam, MP, has declared that the government will no longer tolerate the “loss-making” status of Bangladesh Railways. In a high-level meeting at Rail Bhaban on Thursday, the Minister emphasized transforming the railway into a profitable, service-oriented backbone of national transportation. He instructed officials to draft a 180-day actionable roadmap to implement the ruling party’s election pledges.
“Our priority is to eliminate corruption and stop the black-marketing of tickets as per the specific directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman,” the Minister stated. He also set a one-week deadline for officials to find ways to reduce travel time on the critical Dhaka-Chittagong route. The meeting also focused on ensuring hassle-free travel for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. State Ministers Habibour Rashid and Md. Razib Ahsan were present, supporting the vision of a modernized, tech-driven railway system.
