Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Parliament Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal, MP, at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday, September 2, 2026. The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral diplomatic ties, enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, and leveraging information technology to modernize parliamentary operations.
At the outset of the meeting, High Commissioner Trivedi lauded the architectural grandeur of Bangladesh’s national parliament building, designed by Louis Kahn. Highlighting the shared history, culture, and heritage between the two neighboring nations, Trivedi underscored the importance of continuous dialogue to further consolidate existing ties.
Trivedi emphasized increasing inter-parliamentary exchanges to deepen bilateral friendship. Regular visits, joint dialogues, and institutional exposure between lawmakers of both parliaments would add fresh momentum to South Asian diplomacy, he noted.
Characterizing the Indian Parliament as a pioneer in digital adaptation, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal sought India’s technical cooperation as Bangladesh moves forward with its “E-Parliament” initiative. He expressed confidence that India’s digital governance experience would benefit Bangladesh’s ongoing parliamentary modernization efforts.
Describing Dinesh Trivedi as a veteran parliamentarian, the Deputy Speaker expressed optimism that Trivedi’s diplomatic tenure in Dhaka would serve as a vital bridge in expanding legislative cooperation and sharing best practices between both assemblies.
Both sides agreed that parliamentary diplomacy offers an exceptional platform for exchanging knowledge and addressing common developmental priorities. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening mutual trust, maintaining regional stability, and prioritizing public welfare.
National Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, the Deputy High Commissioner of India, and senior officials from both missions were present during the interaction.
